INSTALLATIONS and SYSTEM PLANNING

Factors:  As there are many factors to consider when deciding which company to use to install your new sprinkler system, Quality, Length of Time in Business and Trustworthiness of the services provided are the three most important.  Ernie and Howard’s strives to provide an initial meeting between the system designer and the homeowner at the time of property measurement to discuss specific landscaping needs, to provide the best design possible and to educate how the design will manage your landscape.

Estimates:  We will provide you a FREE Sprinkler Installation consultation and prefer for the homeowner to be at home to allow us the opportunity to discuss areas to be covered and locations for the automatic programmable clock and back-flow.

Cost:  The cost of a fully installed residential sprinkler system may vary greatly depending on the size and needs of the area to be watered; but if all factors are ideal, the average initial cost ranges between $2500 - $3000.

Ernie and Howard’s promises to provide the best quality for the best price – Value is not equal to a cheap price.  A cheap price usually means that areas may be neglected or compromised while at the same time, the highest price does not necessarily indicate high quality.  When comparing sprinkler companies, consider Services provided, Staff availability, Values and Longevity in business.

Watch out for these commonly used, undesirable short-cuts:

bullet

Not including a backflow device: This is often required by local codes to protect your drinking water.

bullet

Installing sprinklers too far apart: This makes it impossible for certain areas to receive enough water and can cause brown spots during the hot summer months.

bullet

Mixing sprinklers with different application rates on the same line: This causes one area to be over-watered in order to sufficiently water another.

bullet

Not using special watertight connectors and a protective valve box: These components are necessary to safeguard the electrical elements, guard against short circuits and prevent corrosion.

Fully Installed Price includes:

bullet

State required plumbing hook-ups (with permits & code requirements)

bullet

Automatic control timer

bullet

All necessary power & water hook-ups

Personal walk thru & inspection with installation foreman

Timing Clocks

The whole idea behind installing an automatic sprinkler system is to have a beautiful lawn with little fuss. A reliable, simple-to-operate irrigation clock makes this idea possible. Whether you’re at home or not, you’ll never have to worry about turning on the sprinklers because irrigation clocks are highly dependable.

  Drip Irrigation

When it comes to keeping your flowers, shrubs and trees healthy and looking their best, your professional contractor knows that Irrigation Drip is an excellent choice. Unlike conventional “spray” systems that work great for lawns and more open expanses, drip products water at a much more localized level, at or near plant root zones and provide slow, consistent water application. They minimize runoff, eliminate over-spray onto windows, walks or streets and are ideal for planting beds of all sizes.

  Back Flow Devices

Protects your drinking water from contamination flowing backward. It is required by the state of Idaho for any permanent system connected to a municipal water supply. Must be done by a certified back-flow inspector, and Ernie and Howard’s is certified by the state of Idaho.

  Rotors

Watering yards effectively and cost-efficiently is no longer a challenge, thanks to a family of residential rotors. Each rotor is unsurpassed in capability and durability. Innovative features of each rotor model provide you with benefits that improve performance and enhance reliability. These heads are engineered to promote wise water management and conservation.

There are even gentle flows for watering delicate plants and flowers.

Experience:

Anyone can install sprinkler heads, but most do not know how to manage a sprinkler system.  Why does that matter, you ask?  Your sprinkler system is a complex network of pipes, valves, sprinklers and electrical connections. Because it serves as the circulation system for your entire yard, the design and installation of your sprinkler system is critical. This is a complicated process that requires specialized tools and equipment, as well as a strong knowledge of landscape design and hydraulics.  Knowledge of proper watering schedules is also critical to your lawn’s health. (Too much water can stunt plant growth and cause rotting;  too little can cause dehydration both of which leads to plant death). Not only do correct watering schedules (times and amounts) save you money; water is not wasted, but they also allow for improvement of plant health – too much water can stunt plant growth and cause rotting which leads to plant death.  Having an experienced sprinkler technician professionally install your system and make repairs gives you the assurance that your landscape investment will remain an investment.  At Ernie and Howard’s, we have over 60 years of total sprinkler knowledge and experience.
